About Cardiac Rehabilitation

If you have heart disease or are recovering from an event such as a heart attack or heart surgery, your Physician may suggest that you join a Cardiac Rehabilitation (Rehab) Program. This program will help you maintain a healthier heart. A large part of the program will be exercise. But, you’ll also learn how to control heart disease risk factors.

Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehab teaches you skills to strengthen your heart and improve your health for the rest of your life. You will work closely with your Physicians and a team of Healthcare Providers. This may include Nurses, Respiratory
Therapists, Exercise Specialists, Dietitians, Pharmacists, and other Counselors. This team will provide you guidance and support, but it’s up to you to make the changes needed to protect your heart and health. This will be challenging at first, but your efforts will pay off. Cardiac Rehab can help you feel better, be more active, and lower your chance of future health problems.

Your rehabilitation sessions at Southwest Medical Center will feature a series of educational topics, including: diet and nutrition, tobacco use, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, weight, stress control, exercise at home, depression, and your medications and related lab results.
