Southwest Medical Center is proud to announce the arrival of a urology physician, Fadi Darwiche, M.D., to the Liberal community. Dr. Darwiche joined SWMC’s provider team this month, bringing new, specialized medical services and many years of experience to the Urology Care Center.

Dr. Darwiche grew up in Lebanon as one of four children in his family. He says his love for learning led him to the medical field.

“Nobody in our family had studied medicine before, I was the only one,” Darwiche said. “I was a good student, and I really liked science and biology, so it’s been a good fit for me.”

His passion for learning has carried him and his family around the globe since graduating from Saint-Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon in 2000. Dr. Darwiche went on to complete a fellowship in urologic oncology and reconstructive urology at the Bichat University Hospital in Paris before practicing urology in Lebanon, Qatar, and Saudia Arabia.

“Every day there’s more innovation and discoveries in medicine, as well as changes in treatment techniques,” Darwiche said.

After more than a dozen years of practice in the Middle East, Dr. Darwiche progressed in his career with training in the latest urological practices during clinical fellowships in urologic oncology at the Miami University and Jackson Memorial hospitals. He completed his most recent fellowship training in urologic oncology and robotic surgery at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.

“I have good experience in the field of urology, and I feel I can serve the community well,” Darwiche said.

Dr. Darwiche explained that urology is a specialty practice, and there are many urologic conditions and disorders to treat, including cancer, stones, urinary infections, erectile dysfunction, fertility disorders in men, incontinence in men and women, and neurologic bladder issues. He says this diverse range of conditions and surgical procedures helped draw him towards practicing urology.

“I like surgery – it’s all about hand skills. If you like to work with your hands, you like surgery,” Darwiche explained. “In medicine, you do rotations in different specialties, and something in my mind preferred urology.”

Dr. Darwiche said his goal with each patient is to treat their symptoms or disease, and to provide support to his patients as they overcome their medical condition.

Dr. Darwiche is joined by his wife of 10 years, Hanan, and their two daughters – Aya, 8, and Zeina, 5. He says after all his traveling and training, he’s looking forward to the opportunity to raise his kids in a small community and bring new urology services to Liberal and surrounding areas.

Dr. Fadi Darwiche will be located in the Urology Care Center at 305 W. 15th Street, Suite 204 inside the Medical Office Building at Southwest Medical Center. Dr. Darwiche is accepting new patients and most major insurances, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, and Kansas and Oklahoma Medicaid.
