Southwest Medical Center welcomes surgeon, Dr. Timothy Barron, to Liberal

Southwest Medical Center is proud to announce the arrival of a general surgeon, Timothy Barron, M.D., to the Liberal community.  This February, Dr. Barron joined Southwest Medical Center’s surgical team as part of the General Surgery Care Center.

Dr. Barron was born in Jacksonville, Texas, and spent his early life in Tampa, Florida, and Greenville, Tennessee. He states that his interest in studying medicine stemmed from serving in the military.

Coming out of high school, I was very excited to join the Navy. I worked as an operating room technician, which sparked my interest in being a surgeon. I was fascinated to see the improved quality of life after patients’ procedures, and I knew I wanted to play a role in that.  I also worked part-time as an OR tech while completing my bachelor’s and medical degree,” stated Dr. Barron.

Dr. Barron earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine located in Memphis, Tennessee.  He completed a residency in general surgery at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, Georgia.

Dr. Barron has practiced medicine for more than 20 years working as a general surgeon in public and private practices. Most recently, he practiced in Elkin, North Carolina. When considering where to relocate his practice, Dr. Barron said his visit to Liberal and the individuals he met impacted his decision to choose Southwest Medical Center.

I love the Midwest, and when I visited I was very impressed with the community and Southwest Medical Center. They have all the amenities needed for what I want to accomplish as far as treating individuals with surgical issues. Also, Kansas is an amazing state. It has a rich history and a very diverse community. Everyone is so friendly and liberal with their assistance.”

Dr. Barron is board certified with the American Board of Surgeons and was recently recertified. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures, also known as complex laparoscopy procedures including hernia repairs, colectomy for benign or malignant disease, and reflux. He can also perform upper and lower endoscopies. Dr. Barron says being a doctor is a gift from God and it is a privilege he does not take for granted.

“I’ve come to the understanding that God guides us if we listen. So as the great physician Jesus healed, and he gave me a talent, and by using my talent I glorify god. Every individual I treat, it is because that is what God wants me to do. Being a doctor is the ultimate opportunity to help others. As a surgeon, it allows me to have an immediate positive impact on the care of my patients and community.”

Dr. Timothy Barron is now seeing patients at the General Surgery Care Center, alongside general surgeons Dr. Jose Maeda and Dr. Anthony Galitsky.  The practice is located at 305 W. 15th Street, Suite 204 inside the Medical Office Building at Southwest Medical Center.  Dr. Barron is accepting new patients and most major insurances, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, and Kansas and Oklahoma Medicaid.  For questions about services performed by Dr. Barron, please call (620) 624-4946 or visit www.swmccare.com.
