Nurse Anesthetists Week

Meet Bonnie Porter and Tim Whalen. Bonnie and Tim are SWMC's certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA's). As CRNA's they are responsible for providing anesthesia care to patients. In doing this, their number one priority is always patient safety.

A CRNA is a Registered Nurse who has graduated from an accredited graduate school of nurse anesthesia and passed a national certification examination. It is one of the highest levels of advancement for a Registered Nurse.

Many CRNA's work independently and some in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, in fact in more than 65% of rural hospitals in the United States, CRNA's are the sole anesthesia providers. Bonnie and Tim take great pride in the work they do and we are also proud they are a part of our team at SWMC. Stop by the Surgery Department this week and wish them Happy Nurse Anesthetists Week.
