Keith Selected for August Concerned patient Care Award

Chris Keith, RN, is the August Concerned Patient Care Award winner. He was nominated by three different patients/families for the employee of the month award. While at SWMC, Chris has been nominated 4 other times and has been chosen twoce for the award. Comment cards all had a similar message. "He makes you feel very comfortable having him around. He goes all out, to do anything for the patient and their family." Another card stated, "He was very kind and caring to the patient and the family. He was always anxious to teach me something new. He was very helpful and made me feel at ease in a different environment." A third card read, "He cares! God Has given him a gift and he is using it. I pray that he reaches his goal in becoming a doctor. He will be a great one, just like Dr. Canfield and Dr. Fitzgerald."

Chris started out in nursing as a CNA back in 1997. He completed an Associate Degree in Nursing at Seward County Community College. Future plans include completing a Bachelors Degree so he can attend CRNA school next August. Eventually Chris wants to apply to medical school with the University of kansas being a top choice.

Chris primarily works in the ICU and ER, but from time to time, he floats to other departments. He enjoys working in ICU because of the critical care aspect of nursing involvement. As far as working at SWMC, he enjoys the people he works the people he works with on a daily basis. Floating to other departments allows him the opportunity to work with a lot of different people.

As a second job, Chris does "exterminating" for Dave Rine. He says along with being a nurse, both occupations can be considered the "Ying & Yang" of lab. Pest control allows him to enjoy the outdoors. However, he does point out that people give him strange looks once they realize the he kills bugs and works at the hospital in nursing. if Chris has any spare time left over from two jobs and the activities of family life, hunting and fishing are at the top of his hobbies list.
