Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary Team Takes Home Gold Award

LIBERAL, KS – The Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary team recently received a Gold Award of Excellence at the Kansas Hospital Association state convention held in Wichita, Kansas.  This is the second consecutive year this group has captured this top honor.

The “Gold Award” is the highest honor given by the Hospital Auxiliaries of Kansas (HAK) to groups who go above and beyond to promote community health and assist the hospitals they serve.  To earn this award, members must meet a variety of criteria such as participate in health-related community service activities, give direct service to the hospital and fundraise for health career scholarships.

I am very proud to continue the tradition of receiving this award.  Being an Auxiliary volunteer is one of the most rewarding and greatest ways to give back to the community.  I’m extremely proud of our team, and hope we can continue to make progress in the future,” said Connie McPhail, Auxiliary President and volunteer.

This year, the auxiliary has funded more than $45,000 in equipment purchases.  These special patient care items help team members deliver excellent care for patients admitted to Southwest Medical Center.

The Auxiliary remains as dedicated and instrumental as ever in the continuing operation of Southwest Medical Center,” said Bill Ermann, SWMC President.  “We thank them for their many hours of service and commitment to making a difference in the lives of patients we serve.”

The Auxiliary has over 80 active members who are an integral part of the hospital.  McPhail said their focus this year is to grow that number.  “All proceeds from annual memberships are collected for scholarships.  We hope to recruit more members to raise more money to support local students studying in healthcare-related fields.”

Southwest Medical Center’s Auxiliary volunteers are always seeking new members of all ages to serve the Liberal community.  Annual membership dues of $10 a year are applied towards local medical scholarships, and members can participate in service activities that support patient care. If you are interested in becoming a member of the SWMC Auxiliary, please contact the SWMC Auxiliary Gift Shop at (620) 629-6899.
