Infusion Therapy Registered Nurse*

Job Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans, supervises, implements and evaluates the nursing care of each patient through the use of the nursing process.  The RN acts as the patient’s advocate while promoting teamwork with physicians and all personnel.  Infusion nursing is a specialty focused on the care of patients receiving intravenous (IV) therapy, or medications and fluids via injection. Infusion nurses ensure patients receive the correct IV for the treatment ordered, select and manage the appropriate device and monitor and evaluate the patient’s response to the IV therapy. They monitor patients, manage their tubing, maintain arterial catheters, and observe for potential drug complications. Infusion nurses must possess keen assessment and monitoring skills, be highly skilled at performing venipuncture, possess knowledge of different IV medications, fluids, and blood products, aware of infection control precautions, and be competent in working with a variety of different vascular access devices associated with infusions such as peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and midline access catheters, Ports and other devices as needed.
